Re: Fw: A Reflection of Thanks from Child Mind Institute
Dear Friends,
Thanksgiving is just days away. My three sons are preparing to come home for a family dinner. My wife Linda and I have so much to be thankful for—and we're wishing you and yours a holiday full of rest and pleasure.
As we approach the holiday season, I'm also reflecting on and giving thanks for the extraordinary year we've had at the Child Mind Institute. It's hard to believe that only a year has passed since we founded CMI. So much has been accomplished in that time—and of course, there's plenty of work yet to be done.
Over IS million children in this country suffer from a psychiatric or learning disorder, and more than half of them never receive the help they desperately need and deserve. CMI's urgent task, as I see it, is to bring these children the care they've been denied so that they can reach their full potential. In short, our task is to save lives.
During the past year, CMI has created the infrastructure and established the strong organization needed to transform child mental health care. We’ve formed a dynamic board of directors, an astonishingly brilliant Scientific Research Council, and a world-class clinical program. In addition, we’ve launched our new website, childmind.org, and our first public education campaign, “Real Stories”; the website and public education campaign bring information and support to parents and bolster our advocacy efforts to fight the stigma preventing millions of children from getting the treatment they need.
CMI is truly working tirelessly to give all children the opportunity to achieve their dreams and contribute to their communities—without being held back by conditions such as ADHD, OCD, anxiety, and depression.
Thank you for sharing our commitment to healthy kids.
Together, we will secure our kids' future. We will improve diagnoses, find more effective treatments, advance the science of healthy brain development, and provide parents everywhere with scientifically sound information on child and adolescent mental health.
Wishing you and your family a healthy holiday.
With my warmest regards,
Harold S. Koplewicz, MD
