The Eastern European connections extended to Russia's highest levels:

### Applied Viruses Inc. — "Software for Life"

A five-page business plan found in Epstein's files describes a startup for manufacturing synthetic viruses:

Products: synthetic phage therapy (Year 1), canine oncolytic viruses (Year 2), then fully personalized human cancer therapies. Key partnerships: **Karolinska Institute**, Singularity University, Autodesk. Revenue projection: $7.7M Year 2.

Hessel was introduced to Epstein by **Barbro Ehnbom** from Sweden (SALSS — Swedish-American Life Science Summit) and met Epstein at his NYC townhouse on February 14, 2012. Ehnbom followed up from Stockholm: *"JUST A NOTE TO ASK IF YOU MADE A DECISION REGARDING ANDREW HESSEL'S PROJECT APPLIED VIROLOGY."*

### Nathan Wolfe — The "Horny Virus Hypothesis"

**Nathan Wolfe**, founder of Global Viral Forecasting (later **Metabiota**), was one of Epstein's closest science contacts — introduced via Boris Nikolic in October 2009. Wolfe held his book launch party (*"The Viral Storm"*) at Epstein's 9 East 71st Street townhouse in October 2011. **Ghislaine Maxwell** was involved in managing the relationship.

In May 2013, Wolfe proposed an Epstein-funded study:

Leon Black's donations were brokered through Epstein with full documentation:

Perhaps the most striking symbol of Epstein's penetration of institutional science: he had his own building access card to Martin Nowak's Harvard research institute.

A registered sex offender had his own key card to a Harvard research building and was using it to host meetings with world leaders and Nobel-caliber scientists — thirteen months before his arrest.

## Part XVI: What the Documents Show

The documents assembled in this report — now cross-referenced across the full 1.3 million document corpus — establish five things:

### 1. The Ukraine Lab Was Real and Part of a Larger Structure

Bryan Bishop's emails describe an operational laboratory in Ukraine conducting mouse surgeries and microinjection, with parallel human sperm modification testing in Mississippi and results from an unspecified "overseas" location. The technical reference document in Epstein's files goes further — describing human cloning methods (tetraploid complementation, SCNT) with the notation *"This is a method we are interested in using."* The medical tourism legal framework (sell DNA to overseas clinics, exploit jurisdictional gaps) was Bishop's answer to Epstein's concern about US extraterritorial jurisdiction.

### 2. "The Other Deliverable" Remains Unexplained

Bishop explicitly proposed that his designer baby project could serve as cover for a second, unnamed project sharing "the same procedures and lab requirements" — offering "a sufficient level of deniability." Austin Hill set up encrypted communications for "plausible deniability." Epstein's only concern was visibility: *"i have no issue with investing the problem is only if i am seen to lead."* What the second deliverable was, the documents do not say.

### 3. The Pipeline Was Engineered Over Fifteen Years

From 2006 (hiring postdocs for Church) through January 2019 (recruiting a UCSF genome engineer), Epstein built a pipeline that moved from basic research (Church at Harvard, Nowak's evolutionary dynamics) through commercial investment (Boris's CRISPR deals, the Editas round, the Biosys/DST biotech fund) to underground application (Bishop's embryo editing, the Ukraine lab) and synthetic virology (Applied Viruses, Nathan Wolfe). The Forbidden Research meetings at MIT served as recruitment. Leon Black's donations were brokered through Epstein. The slush fund gave Ito $500K in discretionary spending. The funding infrastructure — COUQ, Enhanced Education, Health & Science Interests II, Florida Science Foundation, Jeffrey Epstein VI Foundation — provided financial plumbing. And Epstein had his own key card to a Harvard genetics building.

### 4. Virology Was a Parallel Track

Alongside genetics, Epstein cultivated a virology network: Nathan Wolfe (Metabiota founder, introduced by Boris Nikolic) proposed studies on whether microorganisms drive sexual behavior. Applied Viruses Inc. pitched a "virus assembly line" for synthetic virus manufacturing. Epstein pitched Bill Gates on a joint "virology" research fund. The intersection of virus research with Epstein's other interests — sexual behavior, genetic modification, offshore laboratories — forms a pattern the documents leave visible but unexplained.

### 5. The Network Survived Accountability

George Church apologized. Joi Ito resigned from MIT. Boris Nikolic distanced himself. But the underlying infrastructure — CRISPR startups that went on to raise hundreds of millions, gene drive technology now deployed in environmental programs, eGenesis pig organ transplants in clinical trials, Biomatics Capital (Boris's successor fund) actively investing — continued without the broker. The science was real. The investment thesis was sound. The question is not whether Epstein influenced the trajectory of genetic engineering — the documents confirm he did — but what was lost when that influence was exercised in secret, without oversight, by a man whose primary talent was leveraging other people's vulnerabilities.
