Show opens w/ exclusive interview with Collin Powell where he announces support of Iran deal.
When asked to comment on how he handled emails at State, Powell says, “you can read about it in my book.” Then goes on to say that he arrived at the State Dept with a disastrous information system that he had to fix and bring into the 21st Century. On his desk he had two machines – one was a secure state dept machine that handled secure material; the other was a laptop he used for emails that he sent on an unclassified system.
When asked if he thought HRC’s email situation was serious, he says he can’t answer. Two IG’s working on it, FBI working on it. Best not to comment.
Roundtable (Brokaw/Hugh Hewitt/Joy Reid/Kearns Goodwin): Discussion on new NBC/Marist poll on GOP #’s and Trump’s disastrous interview with Hugh Hewitt on foreign policy issues.
Clip from Interview with Richard Trumka:
Trumka is asked what it would take for Labor movement to work hard for HRC and he says it all depends where she comes down on TPP, and that will determine whether people will work hard for her or just vote for her. Trumka also says Joe Biden has been a champion for working people his entire life. Biden and HRC both would be good presidents. (Trumka will be w/ Biden tomorrow).
Next, roundtable discusses new poll #’s.
Chuck says we did Andrea interview in part b/c her polls are tanking. Highlighted new polls.
Moved to inevitability discussion. Brokaw reminds everyone how important organizing is to wining IA, so polls are less significant in caucus states. Says HRC made huge mistakes in Andrea interview, saying he was “stunned” HRC said she wasn’t think about her email construct when she entered the State Department. Says that takes away from big argument that she has integrity.
Chucks says we’re now moving into an electability problem. New poll shows Biden runs stronger against Trump and Jeb. Kearns Goodwin says hard for HRC to keep saying “in time the email situation will be clear” b/c she’s lost time and integrity and says she has to address this issue more aggressively than she already has. DKG also says many are supporting Sanders b/c they want to be part of a “movement” - and they don’t feel there is a movement w/ HRC – lack of energy amongst women and girls.
Joy Reid reminds panel Biden doing ok in polls b/c he hasn’t been attacked yet by the media the way HRC/other candidates have. Says HRC needs more energy and more excitement among women. Maybe Biden getting in energizes HRC’s supporters.
Chuck says as bad as her poll #s are, Republicans would love to have them.
Hewitt says an even bigger problem for HRC moving forward will be Syrian crisis; Chuck says he thinks her separation from POTUS on how she would have handled Assad regime was most overlooked news of Andrea interview.

This Trumpka line about Joe Biden really annoys me whenever I hear him say it - that Biden has been fighting for working people his whole life. It implies that HRC has not. Is there anything we can do to get him to add something nice about HRC? If he says it and then says HRC has too - or gives an example of her fighting for the first responders after 9/11 or something, I think it will help the perception that there is a labor record contrast between the two.---------- Forwarded message ----------

Wow. What were the differences??
Sent from my iPhoneInteresting to note: Biden's AFL-CIO Lifetime record is 86% and HRC is 94%.On Sun, Sep 6, 2015 at 1:00 PM, Amanda Renteria <arenteria@hillaryclinton.com> wrote:Fine to call. But don't think it will make a difference w trumka. They've always had a special relationship.Tumka's comments do undermine his strong push that the biggest thing for labor is TPA/TPP.
Sent from my iPhoneI agree. He is annoying. I'd like to just call the AFLCIO and talk to Mike Podhorzer about this. Let me know if anyone disagrees. On Sun, Sep 6, 2015 at 11:51 AM, Ann O'Leary <aoleary@hillaryclinton.com> wrote:This Trumpka line about Joe Biden really annoys me whenever I hear him say it - that Biden has been fighting for working people his whole life.
