On Saturday evening, First Lady Michelle Obama announced the launching of the Let Girls Learn Campaign – an initiative focused on supporting the more than 62 million girls around the world who are not in school. Many of them simply can't afford the school fees, or the nearest school is miles away and they don’t have safe transportation to get there -- or maybe there's a school nearby, but it doesn't have adequate bathroom facilities for girls. And for many girls, the obstacles they face aren't just about resources, but about cultural norms and traditions that deem girls unworthy of an education. In an effort to bring more attention to this initiative, the White House has reached out to The Creative Coalition and asked that our members highlight this campaign through their social media platforms. They have requested that our members Tweet or Instagram a photo of yourself – and include a lesson that was important to you when you were in school or an opportunity that you had because of the chance to go to school. We would also like to use this opportunity to highlight the importance of the arts and the impact exposure to the arts can have. A sample of possible tweets or Instagram messages include:
Please be sure to include the #62MillionGirls and #TheCreativeCoalition hashtags in any message that you post, and please let me know (bhorvath@thecreativecoalition.org) if you do post anything so we can be sure to flag it for the White House. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you in advance for participating in this initiative and calling attention to this important cause. |
