Sorry to send you so many unsolicited emails this weekend.
Wanted to follow-up on one of the Majority's emerging themes that I flagged coming out of Huma's interview -- the notion that HRC relied on Sid's advice and counsel on Libya to the exclusion of everyone else at the Department.
In case you missed it, Rep. Mike Pompeo was on Meet the Press this morning. Andrea Mitchell pressed him on the scope of the Committee's work and the witnesses they've chosen to call. Mitchell asked him, why “did you call Sid Blumenthal and Huma Abedin and all of these other personal aides and non-aides” to Hillary Clinton?
Pompeo's response didn't address Huma. But he did focus on Sid. In relevant part he said:
POMPEO: Well, we have focused on the central failure. We have focused on the security issues, and we’ll continue, you'll see lots of questions about that on Thursday. Let me speak to Mr. Blumenthal. It goes directly to the security issue. We see now the former secretary relied on Mr. Blumenthal for most of her intelligence.
Mitchell summarily dismissed that as nonsense. Their subsequent exchange:
MITCHELL: That is factually not correct.
POMPEO: It absolutely factually correct.
MITCHELL: Relied on Mr. Blumenthal for most of her intelligence?
POMPEO: Ms. Mitchell, take a look at the e-mails trails and you’ll see--
MITCHELL: I cover the State Department. That is just factually not correct and I’ve been as tough on this issue as anyone.
