Hurricane Sandy
| John -- This is a serious storm, but we are going to do what it takes to keep people safe and secure, and make sure the communities affected get the assistance they need. FEMA is working with state and local governments to respond effectively. We all owe a debt of thanks to the first responders who will be dealing with the immediate impact of the storm. If you live in the storm's path, please listen to state and local authorities about where and how to take shelter and stay safe -- and encourage your friends and family to do the same. If you are asked to evacuate, please take that seriously. For more information on how to prepare for this storm, visit Ready.gov. And if you'd like to find out how to support relief efforts where they're needed most, please visit the Red Cross or your local relief organization: http://my.barackobama.com/Red-Cross Michelle and I are keeping everyone in the affected areas in our thoughts and prayers. Be safe. Barack |

| John -- Our thoughts and prayers this morning are with the families affected by the storm. It can be gut-wrenching to see the reports of what's happening and feel like you can't do anything to help. But it's important to remember that you really can: Relief organizations like the American Red Cross are on the ground right now in the communities affected by the storm, and making a financial contribution to those efforts is the most effective way to help those in need. So, if you'd like to help, please give to the American Red Cross right now: http://my.barackobama.com/Red-Cross Soon enough we'll need to get back to work on the most important campaign of our lifetime. But the most important thing at this moment is that you and your loved ones are staying safe, and that the rest of us do what we can to help speed the recovery. Thank you, Messina -----------------Original Message----------------- From: Barack Obama Subject: Hurricane Sandy Friend -- This is a serious storm, but we are going to do what it takes to keep people safe and secure, and make sure the communities affected get the assistance they need. John,
As the East Coast recovers from the destruction of Hurricane Sandy, we're all thankful for the efforts of the dedicated first responders working to ensure our safety. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Hurricane Sandy's victims in the Hudson Valley, throughout New York, and along the coast.
It's critical to continue following instructions of law enforcement officials and rescue workers as they restore power and repair damages. Below are some helpful links and numbers as the recovery process moves forward.
- As always, call 911 immediately in the case of an emergency.
- The NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services is running a Hurricane Sandy Helpline for New York residents: 888-769-7243 or 518-485-1159.
- Click here for contact information and outage maps for power companies.
- For the latest public alerts from Dutchess County, click here.
- For the latest public alerts from Orange County, click here.

Randy and I hope you and your loved ones managed to make it through okay and continue to stay safe in the coming days.
