Re: DRAFT: Baton Rouge remarks
Hi everyone -Attached is a draft for tomorrow's organizing event in Baton Rouge. It's a version of the latest stump speech, but with more health care, a jab at Jindal, a shout out to POTUS this weekend at Marlon's suggestion, and some messaging around racial disparities.Holler with your edits. Thanks!Lauren
Remarks aren't necessarily targeted at the Af Am community even though our audience will be heavily Af Am as planned. Thinking this might be a missed messaging opportunity. Nevertheless, she'll be at a predominately Af Am educational institution and very close to many other black educational institutions. This is a great opportunity to talk about the disparities in education, especially as it relates to the Af Am community. Also, should give credit to this community which has created a educational safety net for its Af Am children, one that would not exist but for intentional efforts by people in this community. Thanks, everyone - incorporating edits right now, as well as some great suggestions that came in earlier from Marlon.LaDavia, that is a great point - might you be able to point me in the direction of any numbers or specifics on the education disparities and the efforts of people in this community? If so, I think that could easily be added between the paragraphs about incarceration and child poverty. On Sun, Sep 20, 2015 at 3:13 PM, LaDavia Drane <ldrane@hillaryclinton.com> wrote:Remarks aren't necessarily targeted at the Af Am community even though

A few small things.
Instead of “filling prescriptions or paying rent.” How about “ no one should have to choose between paying for medicine they need and paying their rent. “
And this phrase: which causes negative health outcomes –
I don’t think most people in America have any idea what that means. Can we put that into real terms for what we’re talking about for people there?

Also would change one last thing Just get rid of the Republican hit in this one = The point is stronger without. It. :
This : Lindsey Graham said: “Hillary Clinton has list a mile long to help the middle class,” and the Republicans don’t have anything at all. He’s darn right about that. It was the most honest thing anyone said all night.
