Interview with rachel maddow she pushed him on 'aren't u in a position now to claim conservatism has failed'. Obama said he delibrately not going there, notice I'm winning, and people are sick of idealogical labels. I don't we part of it..can get the transcript as I've summarized. Worth considering tone of our post election. -------------------------- Sent from my BlackBerry Wireless Handheld

Interesting. She reiterated the point this morning on the Today show. It makes sense to me that he'd say that...he's always sold himself as the post partisan candidate, so it would be weird for him to do an ideological victory dance now. I'm not convinced that it means CAP shouldn't do one (knock on wood, fingers crossed) if we win. -----Original Message----- From: Laura Nichols Sent: Thursday, October 30, 2008 10:16 PM To: John Halpin; 'john.podesta@gmail.com'; Jennifer Palmieri; Daniella Leger; 'faiz.shakir@gmail.com' Subject: Obama on 'progressive v conservative' Interview with rachel maddow she pushed him on 'aren't u in a position now to claim conservatism has failed'. I don't know if anyone saw Obama's rally in Columbia last night, but it was really top notch in terms of presenting a clear, concise, and coherent political argument in a public setting. It's notable that Obama is not only embracing Clinton's economics but more subtly the whole Clinton-Dionne "false choice" formulation about philosophy. It was even more interesting to see Clinton at the Franken rally later on channeling a younger Obama (and Clinton) -- he was absolutely on fire about the injustice of the health care system, seething with heartache and disbelief about the situation of a mother with a severely disabled son who faced horrible options in trying to care for him. "This is America?" Clinton brings out Obama's capacity to bring folks together around a pragmatic progressivism and Obama brings out Clinton's social justice instincts. Fascinating joining of the two traditions.
