I arrived London this morning.

Ran to Rena Sindi's 49th Birthday lunch for 50 girls and she gave everyone a denim jacket with our names painted on the back. Makes it really had to give away.

Then went to Winsor Park to Elton John's home. Was just so amazing to see how he lives. Dinner was really interesting...for a fund raiser...knew some and met some new. Elton introduced me to his two little blond boys, Zachary and Elias. They sing and take piano lessons at 5.

I sat next to Mike Ovitz who founded CAA in LA. Remember him? Now he makes billions in the Internet and says the most brilliant minds are in San Francisco and they are changing the world. He was always humorless and very full of himself. I met him. 40 years ago when he represented Barry Levinson on "Diner".

Mike is still married to Jane, who has a horse ranch in Oh-high, L.A. and Mike, although technically still married, is engaged to Tamara Mellon. Mike has no pre-nup and is not giving Jane one painting of his vast collection or one cent of his Internet billions.

Tamara invited me to her 50th Birthday party Friday night at 5 Hertford Street....but have a dinner with Princess Fiyral, etc....so I will go for drinks and maybe back after. She is having 80 swells.

Back to Elton. He sang with Joan Baez...was really fabulous. I can not thank you enough for getting me that ticket. (must be tax deductable)... the presentation about what Elton, etc. have accomplished was very well done....but the social experience of being with Elton in his home was amazing.

I asked him to host a screening for Billie Jean King and her new feature film about her, "Battle of the Sexes", coming out in Sept. and he might.

Where are you? Will call tomorrow. The three weeks at The Carlyle was fantastic I am Eloise of The Carlyle. Bumped into Mick Jagger TWICE in the elevator as he was coming or going to the gym. He knows my name. Every time he talks to me, I faint.

The apartment is going to be gorgeous.

I made a deal with the Carlyle to stay from end of July to end of August four nights a week in a smaller room than my suite....insurance covers half...since I am in the country Friday, Saturday and Sunday...it is cheaper to stay at the hotel four nights than sub-let. Come September/Oct I will figure out.

If I die after the apartment is finished, Mattie can sell it instantly. I am feeling great, so do not count on my early demise.

Where are you? I will call tomorrow. Again, tonight was such an interesting experience. Thank you over and over. xoxo Peggy

As I was listening to Ovitz tell me he invested in a company that was worth 5 billion and is now worth 23 billion...I immediately thought you were right in the middle of all this.

I will see him tonight and tell him "hi" for you.

Jeffery, I know all the girls say this, but your generosity always takes my life to another level. You enable me to sail thru global ports and experience life to it's fullest.

More news to come.

On the birthday front..

Jessica de Rothchild is giving me a dinner for 30 at Harry's Bar on Friday, June 30th. Great list. Will send. Are you in London? If so, MUST come.■will send invite when NYC opens.

Saturday, July 15 (my real birthday is Monday, July 17) I am giving and paying for.(out of my birthday budget)..a dinner for 48 on Gigi and Avie Mortimer's back porch in Southampton.

That list is excellent too. Have staunch Democrat Kathy Rayner and staunch Republican David Koch coming. Expect a food fight. Basically I am paying for a caterer and a florist...so budget will be very reasonable.

On Saturday, July 22nd, Amalia and Adam Linemann are giving a lunch in Montauk at their Andy Warhol estate on the cliffs for about 30...Peter Beard, Bruce Weber, Julian Schnable...all the arty guys I have know for 30 years.

Here lies an interesting situation. Princess Firyal wanted to be involved in a global birthday celebration at the New York Public Library in the fall and put down (without telling me) a $40,000 deposit on Astor Hall and Gottesman Hall for a dinner for 200-300. I went over to the library and met with the events gal and tried to get Firyal's deposit back. Then I called David Monn, ok, probably one of the most expensive florists in town and asked what it would cost to do decor (the Gottesman is all marble columns) and dinner for 200. Sitting down? $200,000. That's the same at the original idea of The Four Seasons, quoted from Aby Rosen....now add Firyal's $40,000 deposit for room rental and that party is $240,000. Totally nuts.

The money left over from Elton John (15,000) and my July 15th Southampton party over $50,000 is going towards my new apartment.

So I have to tell Firyal, with all her good intentions, she put me in a situation that is not in my cards. Will keep you posted.

Why would someone put down $40,000 for a party and not tell me? So weird.

Where are you June 30, July 15 or July 22nd? Don't those THREE parties sound great. Will send guests lists. xoxo Peggy
