Sorry i just returned to the lab after a dinner engagement A pilot would cost almost nothing unless the professional magician charges me - travel from northern California down to San diego ; overnight stay plus some sort of consulting fee which he might decline

But in my experience with such thnghs the " hit rate " is very small with a pilot - which shouldn't stop us anyway the advantage with a program - if your sponsor can afford it - is the program generates its own momentum and may well raise the chance of making Important discoveries Additionally If he/ she donates more than a million he could have the center be named after him ; and we could study not merely telepathy ( a topic of great interest to a member of our center dr john smithies MD who studied paranormal phenomena 50 yrs ago ! Additional finding could be used for hiring a full ti,me postdoc and grad students for 3 to 5 yrs My own interest Is [primarily in EXCEPTIONAL " off scale " abilities that are still within the realm of the possible versus out-right supernatural. eg number savants - language savants - skills emerging after head injury unleashes hidden abilities . Number svanthood woulds be especially easy to study because its a COMPACT rigorously defined system So the emphasis would be on " off scale " rather than " outside the realm " ; though i have an open mind.

If your pal is serious about setting in motion a lab for the study of extraordinary brain potential - in could raise it with the powers that be - something like 500 000 to 3 million would get the administrators excited
ON a smaller scale i don't have a [problem with my lab being funded by epstein so long as theres no UC connection - he would appoint me as coordinator / director of a private initiative unaffiliated with UCSD
