I've had a lot of friends die but I've not been to too many mem services. And never a single bar mitzvah but my own. The only memorial service I remember affecting me for its sincerity and joy was George Plimpton's. I think he was neglectful of his children, but they rose above it gracefully and spoke honestly at the service.
