I have a very good and trusted friend -- and ex -- in the Bay Area: Grace Webber. Grace has recently become foster mother to a ten year-old. She's a logistical genius, as I know from having arranged complex travel with her (including your and my rendezvous in US VI in 2006 before a BVI sailing trip). Grace is, alas, right now stuck in Maine with her foster kid Milana who is supposed to start at her new school on Monday. There are no scheduled flights with room for the two of them within driving distance of Maine, Grace assures me, because of the big freeze and storm. Any chance you know of any non-scheduled flights to the west coast from the northeast or even mid-Atlantic states that could help her and her kid get to school? The foster-mother gig began just a few weeks ago so Grace is very intent on establishing her resourcefulness, reliability and overall parental credibility to the kid by solving tough problems.

You know I'd only ask on behalf of a high-quality person.

Grace is a very smart Brit (Cambridge, Churchill College, maths and then geography) who has worked at Google for ten years, mostly in ops-heavy projects; her husband Mark Popple is an artist who studied traditional painting and sculpture methods under my cousin Jacob Collins at Jake's NYC atelier for four years before returning to the SF Bay Area in the last year or so. I've known Grace since 1999.
