For Boris, I would find something, probably starting Sept. I understand his predicament . as I understand yours. yours is more complicated.. I think your involvment with anything that generates a profit is a bad idea. Im not sure the gates foundation cannot fund an independent project that you nut ITs true , no chance of promotion. however if the numbers were fixed soon . a grant for x for 5 years. it would be fine. otherwise. pure research where your connection to steve would not be corruptible

he is too embarrassed to ask you something but has been stressing out about it for a few weeks.
you know him, he can never ask for anything for himself and is always more worried about others....so i am going to ask on his behalf

he needs somehow in NYC to live
it needs to be like corporate housing, not a showplace. just somewhere for him to sleep and where Sam can stay while he's there. hotels getting too expensive, etc.
he's maxxed out paying mortgage on his boston place and rent in seattle and taking care of Sam etc.
he's paying for storage for his furniture and all of his boston stuff, needs a place for a year or two

anyway maybe you have something at 301 E 66th or something in the city somewhere that he can rent for cheap?
he's not super comfortable with me asking but i figured that if anyone could ask with a clear conscience and readiness for a NO it would be me!

I will let Boris know you will help Jim find something for September. He says 2200 to 2400 all inclusive is about all he can afford for now since he's running homes in three cities and taking care of Sam. Who is terrific for him! Like a Jewish mama.

I want to be able to earn money and I don't think 5 years of continued salary will be protective enough for me. Im not 20 and cant recover should Steve leave me. It doesn't feel right demanding anything out Steve. I wish I knew how to be a private investor for a few years. Boris has talked about that too. Although bill will suck him dry. The Sam situation may result as with Steve where you dont join the rich people club BC you are too focused on making money for the organization or in boris case, the person.

I'd say with a regular, even medical academic salary of 200k I can support family (dad still sick may not because for long) till really 60 or 65 but won't be able to retire and certainly not have assets.

Not sure what to do but wondering id there is a way forward. I want to be supportive to steve and not a burden.
