RE: draft email
Hi Jeff,
Below is Terje’s draft email to BG – could you look at it and give Terje your feedback before it is sent?

Thanks!

Dear Bill,
With reference to my last email, just as a follow-up, IPI is now organizing our conference on a global defence system related to future pandemics. The idea springs out of your thinking on this matter, which has already found broad resonance — as for instance voiced by Chancellor Angela Merkel recently. Confirmed speakers are Margaret Chan, Peter Maurer, and Michael Moller (head of the UN Office in Geneva). Jim Kim will also be sending a senior person to attend.
I do believe that the threat of future pandemics will be one of the most serious future challenges to the multilateral system and to mankind. I think for you to give the keynote address at the opening of our conference would be profoundly instrumental to move the necessary measure forward, and I do hope that your calendar will allow you to be present.
The conference will be strictly policy oriented, towards a reform of the current system and to setting up possible new mechanism for resilience and the management of future crises. The conference will be held on September 11-12, and your presence would only be required for about 2 hours in the Palais de Nations in Geneva on September 12th.
The event is fully financed and will not require further financial assistance.
I hope your foundation is happy with the cooperation with IPI so far. We were very pleased with the recent meetings that took place in Seattle with the team, and in New York and Geneva with Christopher Elias. And I am looking forward to future cooperation in multiple fields.
If you would have the time, I think it would be useful if we could meet in the near future. I will be in Europe for the next two weeks, and could meet you on short notice.
Warmest,
Terje
no needs a lot of work, if kim is only sending a rep , bill will not go. it needs to start with the title and who else is going
Thanks, Jeff — that makes sense! How about the below?
With reference to my last email, IPI is organizing a conference on "Preparing for Pandemics: Lessons Learned for More Effective Responses." The following speakers have already confirmed their attendance: Margaret Chan, Director-General of the WHO, Peter Maurer, President of the ICRC, and Michael Moller, head of the UN Office in Geneva.
The conference will look at a global 'defence system' related to future pandemics. It will be strictly policy oriented, towards a reform of the current system and to setting up possible new mechanism for resilience and the management of future crises.
