Fw: News from Peter

The reason for my post-election purdah will become apparent tomorrow when I announce that I am publishing my autobiography later in the summer. Ever since my time in Brussels I have been preparing and writing sections of a book that I always hoped to publish soon after leaving office. I have spent the last month pulling together the text.

There are three reasons why I decided to publish the book now: first, when events are still fresh in my mind I wanted to commit them to paper; second, as Labour elects its new leader I believe that there are lessons from New Labour's story which the party should reflect on; and finally, as I step back from the political frontline now seemed the best time to reflect on my career to date before starting afresh.

I wanted you to hear about this from me rather than from the media, hence this email. Do let me know any thoughts or concerns you have. Whatever else it may or may not be, 1 hope it will be a good read !
