New global initiative aims to reduce airplane emissions

The first-ever global initiative to curb airplane emissions was proposed at an International Civil Aviation Organization meeting in Montreal this week. More than 20 countries came together to draft the agreement, which calls for a 4% reduction in fuel consumption and will apply to all new commercial and business airplanes starting Jan. 1, 2028.
