It surprises me, because I am surprised that you feel protective of those that can't fight back.. When I tell you that I am trying to educate people to give them more tools to work with the world and to better adapt to reality, when they can't fight back because they don't have the tools or perspective, you say it is a waste of time and we should let them languish.
having said that, your point is a very good one.... I think it is wrong to attack their possible love, or demean them for holding on to something that people may need.. but I don't think it is wrong to explain why science doesn't provide a basis for that love and most importantly, that if their love requires them to deny other realities, not accept evolution, the big bang, the age of the earth, insist that homosexuality is a sin etc, then they should re-examine their beliefs to see that their faith should not blind them to those things.. .. and I also don't think it is wrong to explore whether there may be substitutes that provide the benefits without the hazards.. In my experience that love is usually coupled with a kind of exclusionism, and judgmentalism that is dangerous. Namely that feeling of love is not reciprocated because those who don't have it are judged to be morally inferior..
and as for Nancy, while you are very supportive of me as a friend, I think you have never hesitated to tell me that you think the love is an illusion... and that is one of the reasons I like you so much.. you support me even if you doubt me.. :)

yes, nabokov , often referred to the brains illusion that time was past .present .future, If the "future" were an actual attractor of the present , with an increasing speed as the present moves nearer until it reaches the now. what would the math look like. ( t at the moment differs from g , as it is not dependent on its version of r ) how would it look compared to the gravity pull of matter into a black hole. and its event horizon. could the inflationary expansion of the universe be considered one of the effects of futures pull? imagin if i told you that the love you felt for nancy, was illusiaonlyu and not based on third party verifiable evidence. and spent time beating my point. thats how people that truly are in love with religion feel. ( i think ). I dont think you serve the community or yourself well by attacking what at its core is based on a feeling of love ( stranger than quantum ). which enables people to stay stomg, have something that is truly theirs. I am hardly a romantic, but feel protective of those that can't fight back, either intellectually or otherwise. with your very signifiganct intelletct it becomes more difficult to pick on someone your own size. go back to work!

I guess my question is not to debate that people are rational... but to ask whether one might map religion onto another irrational component of our nature which is less destructive..
meanwhile I am going to lose more money as Nancy buys a house in canberra, a market that is sure to collapse in the coming year or two.. that is more pressing at the moment.. :)

i understand that is you hying to be polite. in essence women and certain people i believe have a system that does not map onto the rational.. arguments in one system fail in the other. benefit cost. are complex, especailly in theirs. ie is the benefit from knowing that though the doctors say i have one month to live , that praying for a miricle is really harmful, your "rea;ity " is really not anyone elses. i thought a strict mathematical construct of two systems , even an algebraic topopolgy analogy would suffice , though two structures may intersect, getting from one place to another on one manifold , tells you almost nothing about how to do it on another. poetetnaily the more interesting question is why is it so pervasive. why is beauty a part of both„ should belief in relighion follow other power laws. , my guesss is yes, and therefore it shoudl be categoized as a resource.. maybe a benefit to the group , as so many are taken out of the thinking realm for a reason.
