Re: Thank you and next steps
Andrea, Walter and Nasra -
Thank you all so much for your time yesterday, it was very helpful to learn more about IPI's work and areas of focus and how we may work together more closely. To summarize our conversation, our primary objectives for our work in this space are to:
• Reduce number of inaccessible children to zero
• Create safety for polio vaccinators/health workers and their security teams
It sounds like IPI is best-placed to work with us in the following areas:
• Providing research, analysis and insights of the political environment in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Northern Nigeria, and Somalia
• Helping identify potential influencers/high-level contacts that can move the work forward and recommendations for how/whether BMGF, GPEI UN partners (UNICEF/WHO) and others should engage with such contacts
• Convening foreign ministers and/or others at UNGA or related events in support of polio eradication/immunization
Please let us know what additional information might be helpful in order to outline a very high-level set of activities over a 2-3 year period.
Andrea, I realize it might be hard to connect again given your holiday but please let us know if we can find a time to talk before July 23. (I'm out of the office from July 23-July 30.) Otherwise, I'll ask Mito to follow up in my absence.
Thank you again, it was lovely to meet you all and I look forward to working together.

Hi Andrea,
I'm glad we were able to connect today. Here are the next steps we discussed:
• Grant next steps: Amy Carter and her team (Mito and Paul) are happy to talk this through as we discussed. Will it work for you to talk August 5 at 9:30 AM PT/6:30 PM CET? In advance of the call, one of them will share the type of information that we'll need for a project proposal.
• In-person meeting: We would love to meet in person, but given the number of people from our side who would like to participate, are wondering if it'd be possible for you to come to Seattle the first or second week of September. Please let us know if this would be feasible and we can begin looking at dates. If not, we'll see whether we could meet in NYC or elsewhere.
• UNGA: Do you mind sharing with me the dates/times of the meeting/dinner with foreign ministers so we can see if that's even feasible to consider during Bill's time there?
Thanks very much, and I'll look forward to speaking with you on August 5.
Cheers,
Melissa
Dear Andrea –
Hello from Seattle. This is Amy Carter, referenced in Melissa’s email. Along with my colleagues Paul and Mito, we are the Executive Office’s staff who work on special interest grants. I am pleased to make your acquaintance over email and we all look forward to speaking with you on August 5th.
Toward this end, here are the details that will help ensure a productive phone call:
- Dial-In Information
Please use the following number to connect to the call on Monday, August 5th at 9:30 am PST/USA and 6:30 PM CET/Europe. (Thank you for doing a call in the evening.)
Int'l Toll: 1-710-387-8317
US/CAN Toll Free: 1•Ilkl igi > Participant Passcode: 250960
- Grant Proposal Template
Attached to this mail are the proposal templates we ask that you/IPI staff use to submit a proposal to the foundation. By completing these documents, we will be able to learn specifically how IPI will use the funds Mr. Gates has committed to advance our polio eradication efforts, as articulated in Melissa's July 12th email, below. The documents will also ensure that both of our organizations have a common understanding about the goals, objectives, activities and timeline for the work that IPI will undertake with our support.
We will talk more specifically about the templates and our strategic goals for the grant on August 5th. But for now, please familiarize yourself with the templates and we will discuss them on our phone call. We of course will be happy to answer any questions you have about the templates (we appreciate at first review they might seem daunting), our process and anticipated timeline.
Until the 5th; thank you.
Sincerely,
Amy

Jeff,
attached is the empty template we where asked to fill out by the foundation
Andrea
I would do a millon a year for each area. . the peace center should not have the gates name on it. at all.
With "area" you mean: (1) Pakistan and Afganistan, (2) Nigeria and (3) Somalia ? One million for each pr year over five years? So it will sum up to 15 mill over five years.
On the Nexus Centre: BGs name is not mentioned. Shall I just drop it in this context, and keep the dialogue only with BG? Pls give guidence.
