I hope you're all doing well. I wanted to let you know that the BBC contacted the US Embassy press office last night asking if the FBI would like to comment on the fact that "the FBI is expanding its investigation into Prince Andrew." It has been widely reported in the press here in the last 12 —18 hours that Prince Andrew has declined an invitation to be interviewed by the FBI. If you could lend any clarity to this for our situational awareness, we would be grateful.

Obviously, we advised the Embassy press office that the FBI wouldn't be providing any comment from London, and the DCM has also directed that no comment be provided from the embassy. Legat London does not intend to engage with the press here in the UK on this matter, and if it becomes necessary we will advise the Embassy press office to direct all inquiries regarding the FBI to the National Press Office at FBIHQ.

We wanted to bring this to your attention and we know that often these stories can be whipped up in the press in a number of ways out of our control. Anything related to Prince Andrew and this scandal makes it into the media here and the intensity/scrutiny of media attention ebbs and flows with every new rumor.

We just wanted to let you know if you need anything from Legat London or support from UK LE, please reach out to myself and/or ALAI — we manage all criminal programs here. Additionally, if you are aware of any potential investigative activity occurring in the UK (ie an interview of Prince Andrew or any victim interviews) - anything you can do to keep us in the loop regarding the UK related aspects of the case is appreciated.

Please let me know if you need anything from here.

That's great.

Thanks

We really appreciate the background.

After I had hit send, The DOJ Attaché here asked me if I could find out if DANY also has its own case? He's concerned about competing cases and that potential impact here given the sensitivities and the fact that they could be confused as the same by our UK LE partners (and/or the media). Again, just for our awareness. Any clarity is appreciated.

Sorry to bother you with the endless questions.

Thanks again,

Thanks for the email, FBI NY and SDNY have always had an interest in speaking to Prince Andrew if he's willing, however, that's the extent of our interest in him. He's not a big part of our investigation. The U.S. Attorney for SDNY made some comments at a press conference yesterday regarding reaching out to Prince Andrew and not hearing back from him. The media was all over that statement making it seem we are investigating Prince Andrew more seriously than we actually are. We appreciate your support on this case, and of course any future ties to the UK will be appropriately coordinated through Legat London. Let me know if you have additional questions. Thanks,

I am not aware of any DANY investigation on Epstein.

We had some issues prior to and post arrest of Epstein with possible rumors of DANY having a case on him. We eventually found out (I think after the arrest was made) that NYPD special victims did fly to New Mexico to interview an Epstein Victim (Farmer). After our arrest was public some phone calls were made amongst NYPD brass and I'm pretty sure there investigation was closed and differed to us. I'm not totally sure of DANY's involvement into that investigation or if they ever stopped. Our assumption was obviously that they closed anything they had after his death.

It may be an issue though if DANY somehow was continuing an investigation into Price Andrew or his best friend Maxwell. This is something we may want to figure out I'm hoping they are continuing to differ this case to us but we may not know without making a few inquiries.

1419 files from the DOJ Epstein case media release. All files are public records from justice.gov.
