FW: question for a Vox story

Hi and thanks for talking on the phone just now. As I mentioned, I'm working on a story looking at what the Jeffrey Epstein case says (and doesn't say) about the larger issues of sex and human trafficking in America. I'm wondering if there's anything the US Attorney's office can tell me about why sex trafficking charges, specifically, were brought against Epstein this year -- the allegations seem to point to a variety of possible criminal charges so I'm just wondering what led the US Attorney to brio trafficking charges specifically. I'm not sure if I completely understand your inquiry. Is it a matter of illegal conduct over a certain timeframe? Or why we charged sex trafficking and conspiracy, rather than other criminal charges? Thanks.

Yes, to clarify, what I'm asking is why the US Attorney's office brought sex trafficking and conspiracy charges specifically, rather than other criminal charges (sexual assault, for example).

I'll just tell her assault of a minor is not a federal statue.
