Hallo JE!
Went out with Mirna tonight (see pic). First time I've been out since new years because I've been sick. Dubai nightlife was just as I remembered: drunk Brits.
Made the Croatian leave me since I knew he wasn't for me. Always feels empty to lose someone, though.
Much love, always thinking of you,
Dubai Diary: Courage to move on
Russian common sense
Spent a lovely Saturday afternoon with my Russian girlfriend. What I've learned is that most of the time, we know what the right thing is. It's an entirely different story whether we do it.
Visa run
I went for another visa run to Oman. When I stopped by the border control to get a stamp in my passport, I left the car in the middle of the road with the door wide open. I then realized I've become pretty Middle Eastern because only an Arab would do such an arrogant thing.
Big apartment, big problems (like my dad says: "small kids, small problems; big kids, big problems")
I decided to unclogg the bathtub in the guestbathroom even though it's working and even though I never use it.
After putting some version of Drano down the drain, it got completely clogged. I've put three different uncloggers down the drain and been plunging a bit too, and it's still clogged!
Called maintenance and unclogged the bathtub. Told me never to put powder in the drain, only liquid unblockers.
My health
I'd say I'm a couple of days away from full recovery. I'm still on the inhaler, though. Since two days I'm also on Panodil since my female (what else?) colleague is giving me a headache. This is precisely why I prefer to work with men.
Work & Visa
MAC is charging forward with my residency visa (drivers' license and liquor license as well) so this is the point of no return. I figure I need to stay on this job for a year and I can't stall getting a residency visa for another year. So here goes nothing.
I admit that now that Dubai life is really happening, I have Buyer's Remorse.
Licenses
I'm sure you're all wondering about the liquor license. You need one to buy alcohol in designated only-alchol stores in Dubai. You can buy alcohol at the big hotels and anything remotely attached to them (bars, nightclubs, restaurants). Should the local police want to mess with you however, you can get arrested for drinking in a bar without a license.
My life
So I'm living a pretty normal life: bathtub problems, normal man, normal job, no money... I even bring lunch to work! Only because there are no restaurants in the Gold & Diamond park where my office is, but still.
This week I realized that sometimes you need to be happy in your life to have the courage to move on.
I made the normal man leave me. Even though it was never meant to be, it feels sad and empty. He's a real man. He said we're not ending it on a bad note, we're continuing it on a good note.
So I'm on my own again and I will never settle for less than butterflies in the stomach.
Two things stand alone; Kindness in another's trouble; Courage in your own.
