Hi Jeffrey,

Some of the folks I pinged w/ your question responded with lists of
people, others didn't...

Here are the lists supplied by those who did:

Suggested (in addition to Ben's list) by Alexei Samsonovich (GMU):

  • Alan Schultz (NRL)
  • David Aha (NRL)
  • Dennis Perzanowski (NRL)
  • Kenneth De Jong (GMU)
  • Murray Shanahan (Imperial College London)

Suggested (in addition to Ben's list) by John Laird (Soar):

  • Rick Granger (Dartmouth) - computational neuro-science - looks at
brain for algorithms. Definitely dedicated to AGI, but with a
different approach than was evident at the AGI-08 conference.
  • Ken Forbus (Northwestern) - creating the Companions architecture
based on cognitive science research on analogy and qualitative models.
  • Pat Langley (Arizona State) - has been working on the ICARUS
architecture. Does work mostly in AI, but some in cognitive science.
  • Cynthia Breazeal (MIT) - builds social robots -

Suggested (in addition to Ben's list) by Sam Adams (IBM):

  • Nancy Alvarado (Cal Poly Pamona) - emotional cognition and psychology
  • Steve Burbeck (IBM) - emergent behavior and emergent cognition
  • Luis Rocha (Indiana) - embodied cognition
  • Cliff Joslyn (Los Alamos) - emergent semiotics, top-notch
    developmental psychologist

Suggested (in addition to Ben's list) by Moshe Looks (Google):

  • Nick Cassimatis (RPI)
  • Doug Hofstadter (Indiana)
  • David Goldberg (Purdue)
  • Eliezer Yudkowsky (SIAI)
  • Shimon Ullman (Weizmann Institute)

Suggested by Hugo de Garis:

  • Ben Goertzel (Novamente)
  • John Taylor (Soar)
  • Stan Franklin (LIDA)
  • Henry Markram (Blue Brain)
  • Marcos Guillen (Artificial Development)

Suggested by Pei Wang (NARS):

  • Eric Baum (Baum Research)
  • Hugo deGaris (CAM Brain)
  • Ben Goertzel (Novamente)
  • Deb Roy (MIT)

I note that many of these folks responded with names of "AI big
shots", who are indeed great AI guys ... but whom I didn't select
because I felt they were too absorbed w/ their own projects to get
seriously involved with a new AI Manhattan Project. For instance,
Markram is a visionary but may be devoted to his own well-funded
project of brain mapping, to an extent that he wouldn't be
divertable...

Several folks responded with comments to the effect that the most
important thing would be to agree first on a common architecture and
approach, before starting actual engineering work. I'll forward you
the email I send the group in this regard...
