Dear Jeffrey,

Attached please find the research proposal, as promised. This is an "ideal world" proposal, subject to modifications if necessary. Some of the "fat" can be avoided if a way can be found to give direct grants to participants. This would remove both the 30% fringe and the 10% institutional overhead from a significant portion of the budget. In principle, this is possible for the four principals' salaries. I explored this route at some length, but was told that it may be difficult for Lau and Thesen because of the nature of their visas. The other components of the budget (post-doctoral fellows/graduate students and experiment-related expenses) have to be channelled through the university.

I look forward to your feedback and will be glad to discuss this with you further at your convenience.

Best wishes,

Nick

Jeffrey would like to hold the 3:30 meeting here at our office.  We are located at 457 Madison Ave, 4th floor, between 50th & 51st.  We share a courtyard with the NY Palace Hotel.  When the guys come to the courtyard, they should NOT enter the hotel…they need to look left and go in the door on the left (above the door it says “457”)  They need to tell the security guard they are here to see Jeffrey on the 4th floor and he will let them up!

Greetings,

I've reviewed the proposal sent to me by Jeffrey and am ready to discuss it. Since I am on jury duty, if is impossible to reach me during the day, but I would be pleased to talk in the evening or during the weekend. I should have a better idea today, with any luck, how much longer I will have to serve.

Best wishes,
