Les, please forward to JE. Thanks.
Rough cost: 25-30k depending on how much I have them do at LSJ, too.
T1 monthly is 1200k w 50 direct dial numbers (that’s the minimum) –with Innovative
I will be dangling the T1 over their head until LSJ is completed (fiber project), then we’ll jump right into this. I’ll be planning in the interim with the contractors.
Problems
The only person on island to support it is Steve Scully
Difficulty finding replacement parts and pieces
Suffers from shorts and dropped calls currently, phone quality issues
Requests from staff to add features can not be completed as phones features are maxed out
Anna is the only individual with the ability to manage the system as an operator, Daphne and one other person want to be able to handle calls i.e. like Helen, Lesley, and Rhana
Can’t transfer calls, need to put them on hold, page, and have the recipient pick up?
New features
New switch –we are starting to upgrade phones company wide with same platform
We can take advantage of the IP functionality
Voice mail
Desktop faxing
Email integration with directory and messaging
Engineers doing setup could also assist in setting up additional LSJ features i.e. IP phones, desktop faxing, etc.
Additional features for phones
Full phone feature functionality ie. Transfer, speed dials, etc. (many features are self serviceable)
Utilization of T1 gives everyone direct dial capability (ability to receive direct calls at their own extension)
Utilization of T1 improves call quality –as does new phone switch and phones
Better phones … they suffer from the regurgitation of old, refurbed phones
Bottom line, as we upgrade our switches, Jermaine and I certify, and we grow our networking services … these devices are ready to integrate with more features and function. We are making progress on cutting edge communications. There are more and more things that can be added: ability to go from cell to desktop phone seamlessly, instant messaging, maintaining the same features and extensions at all of our locations (like logging in), remotely maintaining extensions –Lesley at home. My new approach to this stuff and your requests is pretty much: dump it on. As I make my rounds I try to whittle away at improving each function.
