There has to be and will be and it will be something

"work" done so far and what
will be the upset price for participation in the
team effort. I will keep

EDSA SCOPE OF WORK
EDSA is being engaged to perform two basic
engagements:
Layout a pathway, biking and hiking trailsystem outside of the
existing road system and modify the layout of the
existing road system to
accommodate the new uses contemplated by the
Master
Plan for the Island
designated as FB-1; and
provide all landscaping services anddocumentation which may be
required to implement fully the Master Plan for
the
island designated as
FB-1.The delivery of the services shall be managed by
the
Construction Manager,
provided that all matters of aesthetics shall be
determined by the Owner.
All designs and work product shall be provided in
appropriate form and media
to the FTP web site for the project maintained by
the Maguire Group which
shall coordinate and integrate the designs with
the
plans and specifications
for the each project contemplated by the Master
Plan.Such services shall include, without limitation:
General layout and location of all minorstructures, roadways,
walkways, landscape walls, and other site
amenities
(fountains, parking,
gathering areas, flag poles, etc.) outside the
foot
print of the major
buildings and structures contemplated by the
Master
Plan and the hardscape
integral to each such building including the
"Arena."
Site grading. (but not storm water systemdesign)
Selection and layout of all plantmaterials.
Irrigation system layout.Design and of all exterior hard servicesincluding roadways,
walkways, patios, fountains, landscape walls, and
other special site
amenities outside the footprint of the major
buildings and structures
contemplated by the Master Plan and the hardscape
integral to each such
building including the "Arena."
Selection and layout of site lighting, butnot the electrical
circuitry.
During construction, selection of plantmaterials from nursery
stock. The Landscape design services and documentation to
be provided shall consist
of:
During the Schematic Design Phaseconsideration of alternate
materials, systems and equipment and development
of
conceptual design
solutions for land forms, lawns and plantings
based
on program requirements,
physical site characteristics, design objectives
and
environmental
determinants
During the Design Development Phaseconsisting of continued
development and expansion of landscape Schematic
Design Documents and
development of outline Specifications or materials
lists to establish final
scope and preliminary details for landscape work
During the Contract Documents Phaseconsisting of preparation of
Drawings and Specifications based on approved
Design
Development Documents,
setting forth in detail the landscape requirements
for the Project.
During all phases participating bytelephone
in design review team

Thanks.. the main edsa job is sculting th top of the
hill by the new library, and fitting in that
building,, THey are really the 3 dimensional people we
lack,, all the other work, can be handled as you
suggest..with the caveat that JP has no real sense of
materials that work,,, road, ,lights etc.

A lump sum price of $42,000 was given for a scope of
work which was not
particularly clear, i.e. it called for sessions and
presentations without
saying what they would cover. Moreover, the contract
documents were
generated in May before we wedded together the
disparate group members of
the design team and generated the master plan
effort. To complicate matters, EDSA subsequently took the
position that your request
for trail marking and road layout activities were
outside the effort
contemplated by the initial agreement. When the
initial EDSA bill was
presented to me for review I asked for the relevant
documents and when I got
them, it was obvious to me that before anything was
paid we needed to get on
top of exactly what EDSA was going to do. In
consultation with Darren I
suggested that we should generate a role which was
supportive of and
integrated with the team effort. Hence I generated
the scope for review with
the intention of putting scope and value of EDSA's
services to bed as
quickly as possible.I have seen your other note on JP. I have discussed
this scope with JP's
staff. You will note that the scope distinguishes
hardscape and landscaping
activities within and around the structures and the
activities outside that
perimeter. I will forward the latest draft to him
for further review as a
result of your other note to me.If JP is to get a somewhat more expansive role and
Brinsley is to be more
extensively involved in plant selection, the EDSA
role seems to be shrinking
rapidly. Using Brinsley obviously makes perfect
sense because he is here,
has the skills, is otherwise engaged in working for
you and he
enthusiastically has been craving direction and
involvement in my limited
contact with him. This warrants one further comment. I believe that we
get better value, i.e.
more for less cost if we have the Maguire group
design storm water runoff
improvements and perform cut and fill analyses
simply because their rates
are much lower and these exercises have little to do
with aesthetics. You
will note that this judgment also influences the
scope discussions and the
document I generated. If this is agreeable to you, the judgment calls will
govern further
discussions with EDSA once I hear from Darren. He
will be here next week as
you know so I expect that this get on track quickly.
It has to because I
have scheduled a design review meeting on the 19th
to really push
everything.Long winded, but I felt a need to give you the full
picture.-----Original Message-----
