Jeffrey,
important message for JE, during our flight from Newark to St.
Thomas, our A.I.U. ( autopilot Interface Unit was unreliable, then failed
before we landed. This unit allows our flight director to hold
altitudes, the auto pilot works but we have to monitor the altitudes
at all time since it does not lock on. Heading control works but
Long range Navigation does not couple with autopilot.
I have removed the black box A.I.U. and will bring it Palm Beach
for a repair, this will not be easy since its a one of a kind box, due to our
avionics installation in the Boeing, and the company that built the box is
no longer in business. We can fly the aircraft to Newark with you on our
departure but would not attempt a PARIS, North "Atlantic crossing
until we repair the unit.
Larry Morrison is at NBAA in Atlanta where all the avionic
companies are this week and will hopefully find someone qualified to fix this
unit.
I will have further update late tomorrow.
RVSM airspace requires a functioning autopilot, we did not go over
50 feet altitude difference during our flight and that is the
minimum.
Universal in Houston did confirm that Le bourget is not an
approved airport to depart from to enter Israel.
Charles de Galle is approved
Larry V
