Dear Jeffrey,

I've given further thought to our discussion last week and to your suggestion that people with more basic mathematical, as opposed to engineering, background be brought into the project. Instead of thinking in terms of individuals, as was my initial inclination, I approached the issue more systemically. In my opinion, the absolutely best neural-net modelling, and generally mathematical neurobiology talent is found in Israel. Over the last few days I had an email exchange, and yesterday a long telephone conversation with Prof. Misha Tsodyks, Head of the Computational Neurobiology Program at The Weizmann Institute (see attached). He is interested in participating in the project. If we are able to bring him and his associates into the picture, we would create a much more powerful team than most such groups found in the USA. Ideally then we would have a combined US-Israeli team. We would conceptualize things together; do modeling work in Israel; and experimental work in New York. This could be a very compelling project on many levels. I hope that the concept appeals to you and look forward to your response.
