Hallo JE dear!
I was apparently on the borderline to pneumonia and am now hopefully on my way to recovery.

I'm still employed ;)  I'm still dating Croatian, normal guy. He's a very good person, but I don't know if I want a normal relationship.

Much, much love. Always.

Dubai Diary: Lung infection
Dubai is the most shallow city in the world so it makes people go looking for something deeper. I've never been as philosophical as I am here.

Self-medicating
Do not be afraid of it. I drinking cough syrap like water to get rid of the mukus in my chest. They sell some good stuff over the counter here.

Doctor
After three weeks of bronchitis I folded and went to the doctor who turned out to be completely incompetent. He didn't think drinking two bottles of cough syrap in two days was great... Prescribed me antibiotics and cough syrap. At the pharmacy I drank the cough syrap straight from the bottle and it didn't seem to win approval from the pharmasist.

Pretty sure the cough syrap and antibiotics made me high because I made some comments to my new boss about his hot pink tie... Well, I'll probably find out via email tomorrow...

Dear Ms. Steen, we will no longer be needing your services..."

Nevertheless, the bronchitis is giving me more pain than the car accident. My chest is killing me.

Bye, bye U.S.
I cancelled my U.S. American express card and Citibank bank account... So all tangible ties to the country I called home for 12 years are gone. I will never love the UAE the way I loved the US.

Does antibiotics make you sleepy? I'm so tired... I'm starting to fear I will never get rid of this bronchitis so I got an appointment with an internal medicin specialist.

Normal Life
OK, really not sure the normal life suits me... It's not that I have a hard time adapting, but rather that I'm not sure I want to.

The Associate / Compliance Officer at the American private equity firm I did some consulting work for, called in sick for a week. Then the company got an SMS that he had left the country the day before and that was the end of it. An American guy who had been with the company for three years. Dubai can make anyone snap.

Doctor's appt #2
Went to the clinic I should've gone to in the first place and saw an internal medicin specialist: I'm close to having pneumonia and the lungs are severly infected.

The Mickey Mouse doctor I first saw, gave me antibiotics that is never used for bronchitis. The specialist gave me new antibiotics and a cough syrap that is probably not legal in the Western world because it makes the hands tremble and the heart jump.

The doctors are very trigger-happy here. The specialist wanted to prescribe me more stuff, but I declined. However, if I don't get better in a week she will start me on injections of antibiotics. Never been offered that before...

She feared I might have asthma. Come to think of it, shit, I've been living in the Marina for a year. It's a huge construction zone with very bad dust.

Breakfast at Tiffany's
What a great movie! New York hasn't changed that much since the movie and its still one of the most amazing cities in the world. I love New York!

Some firsts events in Dubai:
  1. Got my first business card printed since my arrival in Dubai.
  2. Got my first health & dental insurance. Pretty amazing to get dental coverage - for any company in any country.
Kids, stay healthy and for those of you who live in New York: Enjoy it! Love it! Embrace it! I love it, but will never move back there.
