I had a tough conversation with Sondra Thorson on
Wednesday night during
which she confided that, after Publicis sent WJC
Foundation Publicis' latest
version of the CGI comprehensive financial report
and Publicis answered whatever
questions WJCF raised, Bruce Lindsey left a message
essentially informing
Publicis that the WJCF would "see Publicis in
court". Sondra claimed that BL
would not acknowledge awareness of Forums and that
BL, MM (who was a Publicis
employee, but is now a Foundation employee), and
WJCF, in general, put Sondra
and Publicis in an unnecessarily defensive posture.Sondra capitulated and sent me the financial reports
Publicis sent to Bruce
Lindsey and agreed to give me the contact
information of the person at
Publicis who Rich can speak with to go over the
numbers and do whatever other
auditing/questioning is required.I received the financial report yesterday and
forwarded it to Rich. II
received the contact info for Publicis' accounting
person today and also
forwarded that info to Rich, so that Rich can dig
in. I will update you when I have
anything concrete to reportIn addition, although still maintaining that there
was a basis for Publicis
to charge the $250,000 production fee for the CGI
event, Sondra stated that
she understood why we maintain that none should
have been paid. She knows at
the very least that this is going to be a matter of
controversy to be
resolved, but suggested that Rich finish his
analysis first, so that we address all
the issues at once and are not fighting in
piece-meal.I specifically asked Sondra whether Richard Attias,
who, as you know, did
absolutely nothing for the CGI event, was deriving
any money from this deal and
Sondra said that she believed Richard was getting
some money, but Sondra
claimed not to know how much (this may be the
source of any aggressive accounting
that we might uncover). In addition, Sondra claims
that Publicis told her
that the "profit" that Publicis is making on CGI is
far less than it normally
makes on similar events. I responded to her that
the $220K that Forums made
on this event was far less than the $2MM it was
expecting to receive.I asked Sondra if Publicis was ever out of pocket in
connection with the CGI
event. Sondra said that she thought that Publicis
must have been, but she
could not tell me when, for how long or for how
much.I also asked Sondra where she thought WJCF
suspicions and adverse posture
were coming from. Sondra said that, in part, Mary
Morrison was behind much of
the questioning taking place. In response, I told
Sondra that it gives me
great reason for concern to learn that a former
Publicis employee for the CGI
event, who was intimately involved from the
beginning in all aspects of the
planning, funding, costs and implementation of the
event, is now questioning
the financial reports of Publicis. Sondra claimed
that Mary could have her own
personal reasons for wanting to go after Publicis
and Sondra maintained her
belief that the entries in the reports she sent to
BL and now to me are
accurate.Would it be ok if I have Rich speak with Mary
Morrison at WJCF to find out
what her concerns are?Darren
