Jeffrey,
Spoke to Bob Rockwood this morning, he will consult
with Sean on the sale of
the G2 when he returns next week.
Bob recommends painting our G2 white with a standard
stripe, he said that
would be the best $100,000.00 you would spend.
First impressions are everything
on perspective buyers of older Gulfsteams according
to Bob.
Paint slots have a 4 month lead time, we have one
reserved for June 16th.
Please advise if you agree? Interior is fine for
re-sale.
More corrosion found:
All X-rays are complete, 1/4 inch deep corrosion was
found on the R/H clothes
pin fitting, (this is the point that attaches the
wing to the Fuselage).
Repair kit available, cost $45,000.00 kit / labor
$20,000.00 total $65,000.00
for starters. The corrosion on aft spar is estimated
$25,000.00 plus
engineering cost.
Bob is forwarding G4SP's for sale, Buyers market on
G4's

I just got off of the phone with John Davis (DOM
Private Sky Aviation).
The reports are in for the NDTs and X-rays. The Aft
Right Hand clothes pin
fitting (452 B.L.33) has corrosion under the wing
plank. The area involved is
approximately . 250" deep, and .500" long. This is
not good. We have two
recourses, one is to approach GAC for a continued
service letter with a reduced
inspection frequency, or for us to repair. GAC may
or may not grant the
continued service do to the depth of the corrosion,
and if they did, they could
possibly ground the airplane at the next inspection
interval if they see fit. Two
repairs exist. One is to demate the wing from the
fuselage and rework the plank
and replace the fitting (Private Sky has never
lifted the fuselage from the
wing, and even GAC prefers option two). Option two
installs a three piece
fitting per an ASC (all engineering is approved per
the ASC eliminating further GAC
involvement). The ASC kit is approximately 45k,
with an additional 20K in
labor. If we decide which direction to go quickly,
and kits are available this
will add 10 days to the return to service. I would
highly recommend that
Bristol be made aware of this issue and, be involved
with our decision, because
this will most certainly become a contingency of
sale.
Looking from a buyers perspective, I would not
touch an airplane
operating under a continued service letter, nor
would I accept a reduced price to
cover a repair that may run over do to unforeseen
circumstances.
This is now the hot item, and will be the driving
factor of the project and
possible sale. I will call you to discuss. Please
let me know which direction
to pursue.
