Elton John dinner for AIDS. AMAZING!
I arrived London this morning.
Ran to Rena Sindi's 49th Birthday lunch for 50 girls and she gave everyone a denim jacket with our names painted on the back. Makes it really hard to give away.
Then went to Winsor Park to Elton John's home. Was just so amazing to see how he lives. Dinner was really interesting...for a fundraiser...knew some and met some new. Elton introduced me to his two little blond boys, Zachary and Elias. They sing and take piano lessons at 5.
I sat next to Mike Ovitz who founded CAA in LA. Remember him? Now he makes billions in the Internet and says the most brilliant minds are in San Francisco and they are changing the world. He was always humorless and very full of himself. I met him 40 years ago when he represented Barry Levinson on "Diner".
Mike is still married to Jane, who has a horse ranch in Oh-high, L.A. and Mike, although technically still married, is engaged to Tamara Mellon. Mike has no pre-nup and is not giving Jane one painting of his vast collection or one cent of his Internet billions.
Tamara invited me to her 50th Birthday party Friday night at 5 Hertford Street....but have a dinner with Princess Fiyral, etc....so I will go for drinks and maybe back after. She is having 80 swells.
Back to Elton. He sang with Joan Baez...was really fabulous. I cannot thank you enough for getting me that ticket. (must be tax deductible)... the presentation about what Elton, etc. have accomplished was very well done....but the social experience of being with Elton in his home was amazing.
I asked him to host a screening for Billie Jean King and her new feature film about her, "Battle of the Sexes", coming out in Sept. and he might.
Where are you? Will call tomorrow. The three weeks at The Carlyle was fantastic I am Eloise of The Carlyle. Bumped into Mick Jagger TWICE in the elevator as he was coming or going to the gym. He knows my name. Every time he talks to me, I faint.
The apartment is going to be gorgeous.
I made a deal with the Carlyle to stay from end of July to end of August four nights a week in a smaller room than my suite....insurance covers half...since I am in the country Friday, Saturday and Sunday...it is cheaper to stay at the hotel four nights than sub-let. Come September/Oct I will figure out.
If I die after the apartment is finished, Mattie can sell it instantly. I am feeling great, so do not count on my early demise.
Where are you? I will call tomorrow. Again, tonight was such an interesting experience. Thank you over and over. xoxo Peggy
