AUCTION RESULTS
£72,376,000 totalled across 14 auctions
Classic Week at Christie's London finished on a spectacular total of £72,376,000. Beyond the 14 world auction records achieved for artists or mediums, the July auction series was notable for the variety and volume of registered bidders — heralding from 65 countries, with 10% growth year-on-year and strong online participation — bringing new energy to the saleroom.
The top lot, Hercules overcoming Achelous by the Florentine sculptor Ferdinando Tacca, sold for £6,758,750 in The Exceptional Sale, whilst the Old Masters Evening Sale was headlined by Ludovico Carracci's Portrait of Carlo Alberto Rati Opizzoni in armour, which achieved £5,071,250.
Outstanding results were seen for collections: a group of works by Thomas Rowlandson from the Collection of the late Baron Alain de Rothschild in the Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours sale and a selection by Simeon Solomon from a private European collection in the Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art sale were both 100% sold.
Following these successes, we are now looking ahead to our upcoming Classic Week series in New York and London later this year. If you are interested in making a consignment and would like a free and confidential valuation, please do not hesitate to get in touch with one of our specialists.
