my view , - if you are as solid ( read -; capable ) a= I think you are, little downside . If you are a fraud, the rough an= tumble new world that is here to stay will strip the veneer away ( read -=scandal ). and then you will be damaged goods. ( secret servic= lady). Your handlers are, I guess ,concerned that you will take a =eating. most high lever jobs however now seems to requir= one.

Here's a more accurate way to look at it: there are certai= jobs that are so inherently polarizing that regardless of how well you do=them, half the people will think you are an incompetent, partisan hack. =A0 Ken Starr was universally respected as a capable, smart, high-integrity=lawyer before he became independent counsel. Now, many (if not a maj=rity of) people think he is a right-wing henchman who acted dishonorably a=d incompetently. That's what my handlers worry about.
