ow, this is where it gets interesting. Sotheby's catalogue illustrates cartonnier (illustrated below) which they described as "later" that came with the desk. Does Mr. Epstein have the cartonnier? It's obviously hard to say from this black and white photo, but stylistically, the cartonnier could be from the 1760's. If so, it was likely made at the same time the lion's masks were put on the sides and would make the desk significantly more valuable.

Mr Epstein I never seen this at 71st at all ,If it matched the desk it would have sat on top of the desk , I don't recall seeing this piece at all I will check the furniture books to see if we logged it in. Sent on the Sprints Now Network from my BlackBerry°
