2013 Edge Question - An Update
Eastover Farm
The 2013 Question is off to a great start with early contributions from Edgies, and publication set for Sunday, January 13th.
I am writing to all of you because science in America can use a boost, and young people can certainly use role models. If you are on this particular email list, you are 1) one the world's great scientists Kahneman, Gell-mann, etc.; 2) a pioneer in computation, software, the internet (Gates, Page, Zuckerberg); 3) a major player in the avant grade art world (Prada, Hoffmann, Elkann, Obrist). So, if you take the time to write a response, your participation will be noticed: the Question has a wide international readership and receives intense press attention, which is nearly unanimously "over the top". (See: http://www.edge.org/edge-in-the-news)
Here is the link to the Question (Important - please read the editorial marching orders before sitting down to write).

We worry because we are built to anticipate the future. Nothing can stop us from worrying, but science can teach us how to worry better, and when to stop worrying.
WHAT SHOULD WE BE WORRIED ABOUT?
Tell us something that worries you (for scientific reasons), but doesn't seem to be on the popular radar yet—and why it should be. Or tell us something that you have stopped worrying about, even if others do, and why it should be taken off the radar.
DEADLINE FOR ESSAYS: 5 PM, Thursday, January 10th PUBLICATION DATE: 12am EST, Sunday, January 13th
You know what to do.
And if you aren't into responding, but happen to be the CEO, Chairman, Founder, of say, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Twitter, consider getting behind publication of the 2013 Question on Sunday, January 13th which we are billing as "World Question Day" (a link from your search page would be helpful and interesting). Or if you're interested in the arts, you might be interested in the plan for a Serpentine Gallery/Edge collaboration in building a significant arts institution in Silicon Valley. This project is spearheaded by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Co-Director of the Serpentine Gallery, who is considered to be the leading art curator in the world. Interested? Let me know.
Finally, spend New Year Eve watching the videos, published today, of Jared Diamond talking about his 41 trips to New Guinea ("TALES FROM THE WORLD BEFORE YESTERDAY" http://www.edge.org/)
Have a Edgy New Year!!
