Ed, most of the fmri work ive seen has the participants face up, have you seen sny done side or face down

i have asked to have some same input studies done in four positions to see if we are missing a parameter

Great question! I can't think of any such studies, off the top of my head... but I imagine it would make a big difference. There is an effort to do sitting fMRI, but I think it's just a technical area right now -- not generating active data.
