Getting away is so hot right now...

One of our New Year's resolutions: stop letting the traditional January pap pics of celebs on exotic hols get up our noses. How to make that the resolution we don't break this year? Beat them at their own game. We've a few places to turn the heat up this week on Jetsetter, from a golfing paradise in Florida to beachside resorts in Thailand. And then, our personal favourite, the incredible Ladera in St Lucia, perched on a cliff overlooking the Pitons. In fact, the view's so beautiful that they knocked out the front wall in each suite. See, Simon Cowell? Barbados isn't everything.

Ladera • St. Lucia

Perched on a hillside 1,100 feet above the Caribbean Sea, Ladera offers guests the chance to escape and unplug in luxurious two-story treehouse-style villas and suites. While the accommodations lack TVs, telephones and air conditioning, they do come equipped with private plunge pools, open-air showers and breathtaking views of the sea and St. Lucia's famous Piton Mountains. Popular with honeymooners and couples, Ladera is a place to settle into a comfy lounge chair with a book, take a nap, sip rum punch, take a dip in the pool - and repeat.

Anantara Lawana - Thailand

On a quiet edge of Chaweng, one of Koh Samui's most famous beaches, this Anantara property is decorated in a gorgeous Asian style. The accommodations are decidedly romantic, and rooms have private balconies, outdoor patios and even individual pools in the villas, all a few steps from the warm sea and pearly white-sand beach. And after a day at the spa or the beach, sipping on a sunset cocktail at the resort's unique treehouse restaurant will feel perfectly natural.

Rasananda - Thailand

Koh Phangan has a hedonistic reputation from its monthly Full Moon Parties, beloved by backpackers and gap-year youngsters. But the Rasananda, on the opposite side of the island, is pure Thai class. Known for its intimate size and attentive staff, the resort - 44 villas and suites, each with a private pool - matches the surrounding area's natural beauty without being overbearing. When it comes to food, wine and conviviality, the Spanish seem to have it all figured out, and Hacienda Benazuza is the ultimate gourmand's paradise. Here, recipes created by famed Catalonian chef Ferran Adria (the man behind the legendary, now defunct, El Bulli) are prepared in the hotel's brand new restaurant, Al Sur. Many foodies are lured by the connection to Adria, but they stay to soak up an authentic Andalusian experience, with countless details that stimulate the senses at this 10th-century hillside farmhouse.
