The Mission reports that approximately 250 protesters gathered at the Shouting Place near UN Position 16 at about 1145 hours (LT) today. Reports indicate that IDF troops fired warning shots after a number of protesters approached the "A" line. The Mission has confirmed that two people were killed; there is an unconfirmed number of injuries. The circumstances leading to the casualties remains unclear. All demonstrators have moved back to the Shouting Place.
In addition, a number of civilian protesters were observed near UN Position 22. The Mission reports shots by IDF and a mine explosion at said location, the circumstances and results of which are also unclear. As a precautionary measure, a number of UNDOF military police (MP) personnel have been evacuated to Camp Zouiani (A-Side).
At present, the UNDOF Force Commander is negotiating with IDF for a cease fire. He is also in liaising with local authorities to calm the protesters.
There are also reports of a gathering of at least 500 civilians near the B-side Gate. An unconfirmed number of protesters are reportedly on the move from DAMASCUS to the Area of Separation (AOS).
The Situation Center will continue to monitor the situation, and will provide updates accordingly.
