Mark,
Sorry it was so short at Reid's Dinner. More on connectivity. Jenson's article and hence data on the fisherman in Kerala is much too old (it appears to have formed the basis for your conclusion re profit) fresher and more nuanced work has been done. As Reid might have told you, I have tried over the years to fund the most rarefied of the sciences, things that would most likely not receive govt grants. However, my so-called expertise is really "money". What is it? How can it be used? Its burdens and benefits. Over the past two days I have had great fun teasing and informing some world leaders, at my ranch, (each too politically concerned to acknowledge their lack of understanding and experience in public) in how they might deal with the new zero interest rate environment, huge sums of country wealth given the new and complex financial system.
If the goal is reducing poverty, I would postulate that there are much easier ways than connectivity, much. Trust, Taxes and Transactions each need to be a fundamental part of a new system. Social contracts at the end of the day.
FYI Thiel might come to the ranch this weekend, you are welcome as well. It's a pretty unusual and private place.
My cell is 212- J-e-f-f-r-e-y
If you text me a fixed time, I will turn my phone on.
