Forbes released today the 2016 list of the World's Highest-Paid Authors. These 13 wordsmiths earned a combined $269 million over the past 12 months. James Patterson topped our list for the third straight year, earning $95 million, while children's author Jeff Kinney ("Diary of a Wimpy Kid") placed a distant second, earning $19.5 million. The only newcomer is Paula Hawkins ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "Gone Girl") with $10 million earnings.
