Just had a bitch of a dispute with Uzbek border guards along the Oxus (border with Afghanistan). We were hunting for an ancient ruin about 200 yards from Afghanistan in a place called Termez (where Alexander crossed the Oxus). They kept saying something about 'no man's land'. I kept saying that I wasn't looking for a man. They finally put four rather serious soldiers in our path so we reluctantly turned back. Life is so full of disappointments.
