hi jeffrey,

this friday martin and i had lunch with the director and deputy director of New England Microsoft Research (they're a couple -- Christian Borgs and Jennifer Chayes). we realized that they're also looking a lot into these questions of viral infection (especially the connection with biology) and evolving code.

so far i don't think they have very good approaches. they lack the biological meaning. but they'd like to have brainstorming sessions with us at ped. in any case, i just wanted to keep you updated (coincidentally, jennifer chayes has been in the same phd class as nathan myhrvold).
