Retirement of Police Chief Raymond Martinez
Dear Friends and Neighbors:
Earlier today, Police Chief Raymond Martinez announced his intention to retire from the Miami Beach Police Department, effective April 4, 2014. We are very grateful for Chief Martinez's 12 1/2 years of professional service to the Miami Beach Police Department and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.
Pursuant to the City Charter, it is within the purview of City Manager Jimmy Morales's power to identify and hire the next Police Chief. Manager Morales will work with the Police Executive Research Forum, which is currently conducting an audit of our Police Department, to identify regional and national candidates. I am confident he will take a proactive approach to bringing the very best Police Chief to Miami Beach.
The Office of the Mayor and Commission is committed to providing the greatest level of professionalism in all areas of our government, including the Police Department, for all residents and visitors.
Sincerely,
Philip
