Interesting/Whithead
Dear Friends,
Earlier this month, Whitehead Institute hosted the 2017 Whitehead Symposium in New York City. This year's program, Harnessing the Untapped Power of Plants for Human Health, allowed two leaders in plant biology, Whitehead Members Mary Gehring and Jing-Ke Weng, to provide you with a window into their research and to describe how plants are a major gateway to the future of biomedicine and biotechnology. Jing-Ke's graduate student, Olesya Levsh, who outlined her journey to Whitehead, personifies a commitment that is at the very heart of our mission: guiding and nurturing the next generation of scientists.
Whitehead Institute Director David Page outlined our vision for the future and how we are laser-focused on ensuring that Whitehead Institute remains a pioneering force in biomedical research.
Further, I think everyone enjoyed hearing Founding Member Harvey Lodish's remembrances of Whitehead, which included an important look at funding trends and needs.
We invite you to share in the excitement of advancing the important ongoing discoveries that take place here every day. Your support and advocacy are critical to realizing our bold research agenda, and I encourage you to consider getting involved by making a gift.
