Miami Beach Police Chief Recommendation

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

I would like to commend City Manager Jimmy Morales and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERE) on their diligent work identifying potential candidates to be the next Chief of Police for the Miami Beach Police Department.

After an extensive search and careful consideration, Manager Morales has decided to recommend Dan Oates, the current Police Chief of Aurora, Colorado, to be the Chief of Police for Miami Beach. Manager Morales' decision was based on Chief Oates' tremendous leadership qualities, integrity, and years of law enforcement experience. (See Chief Oates' biography below.)

As per the City Charter, Chief Oates must still be confirmed by the Mayor and City Commission.

I look forward to discussing Chief Oates' qualifications and appointment with my fellow Members of the City Commission at a future publicly noticed meeting. I am confident he is the right choice to be our next Chief of Police.
