Re: Re:
im told that you formed for alex an LLC for a movie ? details?
Hi Jeffrey,
Yes, late last week Alex asked me to help him set up an LLC for his graduate thesis film project. As there are several other legal issues that will need to be addressed (liability insurance, production agreements, actor's waivers, music and location clearances, etc.) it made sense to retain an entertainment attorney to advise on it all (rather than just have Paul Weiss set up an LLC). Brad and I are sitting down later today to discuss the details and review attorney referrals. If you can recommend an inexpensive but competent entertainment lawyer, please let us know.
Thanks!

what are the other kids in the school doing?
My understanding (from an entertainment lawyer who has represented NYU and Columbia graduate film students in connection with their thesis film projects) is that film students who can afford to pay a lawyer (his guess was that less than 20% of them can) set up an LLC and try to follow the legal formalities/requirements. What that involves will depend on the scope of Alex's film and whether or not he is looking for later distribution. So, we need to have a more detailed discussion with Alex on the scope of his project before moving forward. We also need to find out what, if any, support NYU provides (camera equipment, form documents, some sort of liability insurance, etc.) that will cut down Alex's direct costs, and as you suggest, whether other film students rely on this support or outsource.
Agree we shld get the info but I want the family protected if the cameraman drops the camera on somebody's head. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry
