though i appreciate the attempt. very very poor science. 1. pain threshold for ice water. 2. consensus, is the most profitable decision in only certain circumstances. 3. as you and I know, leadership, is not often about consensus.
Yes, but empathy is different than consensus-building. The former comes from strength, the latter can sometimes be but is often not.

business is not about keeping the group happy, it is always about results. short time vs long term. not firing people, seems to be the failure of many empathetic ceos. leading to disaster.
Why would business be any different than other organizations -- that is, the performance of the organization is better if it functions effectively as a team? Not about making people happy, but making them feel respected, secure, etc.

no set rule for all biz, many times visions are not understood by the group. military another good example at the large level, yes you want team cohesiveness but must follow direction without necessary agreeing a consensus, any operation that people will need to suffer, lay offs. firing, military death, tricky to have empathy and consensus, Paris is beautiful because it had a dictator with a vision. Alabama had consensus on its downtown.
Yes, but that assumes that the leader actually has vision, which is a rarity. Given that most leaders are mediocre, I would rather have a little more consensus.
