It was good to see you--if briefly--at the Mainly Mozart event =he other day. You mentioned to me that you knew a clinician who would be i=terested to conduct ASD-music related research. I am very interested in =ursuing this. I've been developing a taiko-drumming inspired intervent=on for ASO together with a local music therapist for some time and have al=o been working on a rhythmic oddball EEG study with autistics. So, I think=it would be very interesting to develop a study.

Hello Alex,

I am including Lesley our executi=e director for Children's Music Fund, a music therapy org I founded wh=Ie at Mass General (ww=.TheCMF.org http://www.TheCMF.org ).

A couple of years back I mentor=d one of our ENT post-docs on a study looking at auditory testing and EEG =n autistic and control patients.

And...Incidental=y, one of our volunteers was part of the UCLA Taiko drumming group. We sho=ld talk and see if we can collaborate on this wonderful project of yours.

Great to meet you, at least over the in=ernet, and thanks for writing! . What a coincidence that you're also i=terested in auditory EEG and also have a connection to taiko drumming! Per=aps a good next step would be to drive up and meet in person? I could brin= some of our portable EEG equipment and some drums. Re= Expts with Pediatric Populations, including ASD patients =idly> It appears likely that we will propose a Mobile Music Laboratory=as part of "The California Music Experience: Brain, Health & Educ=tion" multi-campus grant application, which we are writing July 10-13=at the Marconi Retreat and revising/submitting to the UC President's o=fice before the end of this month. The idea is to equip the MML so UC facu=ty will be capable of conducting experiments incorporating psychoacoustic,=sensorimotor, cognitive, EEG, EP, ERP, EKG, GSR, Motion Capture, immunolog=cal (salivary), and genetic (buccal smear) methodologies in diverse commun=ties throughout the state. Potential locations include schools, rehabilita=ion hospitals, VA hospitals, and senior living facilities. Any ideas you m=ght have for community partners and locations and for running your propose= experiments using apparatus on the MML (in addition to your own locations=labs) would be of interest. Professor Sarah Creel of UCSD Cog Sci is the d=velopmental psychologist on the UC MERCI Board who is especially intereste= in infant, child, and adolescent populations - I'm Ccing her here.
