Dear Boris:
I'm still stunned that matters have come to this. I'm most deeply puzzled as to how it's happened....
I most earnestly hope that you'll continue to be available, into the foreseeable future, to help out in ral crises/emergencies — from wherever you may be.
E.g., your total-vanishing would leave a memory-&-wisdom 'hole' of likely-catastrophic dimensions for Bill, bgc3 and BMGF — at least for the near-to-middle future.
Please do let me know what's likely to happen between 'now' and 'departure-time' — and how I can possibly make this interval most productive/useful/preparatory for both you and Bill. [E.g., will you still be traveling with him, e.g., to Boston two weeks hence? What can be possibly done, re the yawning gap opening a few months hence?? How can I possibly assist you in re-locating most happily/productively??]
Yours - in deep puzzlement-&-considerable consternation,

Terribly sorry that matters have come to this!
Please do let me know if there's anything that can possibly be done from my end-of-things to help out in any manner during your transitioning — or thereafter!

Boris has decided to leave the Foundation and bgC3 to focus on private sector work. Amongst his other responsibilities, I asked Boris to identify early-stage companies doing breakthrough work in life sciences and technology and to assess investment opportunities into those companies. Boris has a real talent for finding and working with these companies; however, our priorities don't allow Boris to devote much of his time to helping these innovative companies. As such, for-profit we world. have been discussing the unfortunate possibility of his eventual transition to the
Over the past 6 years with the Foundation and the last 3 of those working directly with me, Boris made very significant contributions to our success. Boris ranks among the smartest and hardest working people I have had the experience to work with. He has deep technical expertise within

multiple areas, solid judgment and is able to reach out and build relationships with a large and diverse group ofpeople.
Nevertheless, with our programs well established and working so well Boris has decided the time is ripe to move on. Although I am sad to see him go, he does so with my full support.
Boris has graciously agreed to continue working on projects with us all through the end of the year to ensure a successful transition. Thank you. — Bill
