The Hasty Pudding Man of The Year and Woman of the Year have been awarded since the late 1950s. Always an actor or actress. Their names are available on line (just google hasty pudding man of the year and hasty pudding woman of the year). They range from justin timberlake to tom cruise, to faye dunaway, anne hathaway, etc. But these are always comedic, tongue-in-cheek awards.
The Order of The Golden Sphinx was developed to allow the Hasty Pudding Institute at Harvard to bestow its highest honor and a more formal recognition upon an individual who has made a major contribution to the field of the performing arts, not just an actor or actress. Really like a lifetime achievement award. And this is the only award that has the big gala dinner with the original musical performances written specifically for and about the recipient, etc. Last year was the first time it was ever given and so Woody would be the second recipient ever.
